You Prepare a Table Before Me

You prepare a table before me
    in the presence of my enemies;

Psalm 23:5a (ESV)
Here’s what you’ll need for today’s lesson:
  1. A Bible; turn to Psalm 23
  2. A table set for two to three people (plates, cups, silverware, etc.)

1) DO

Set a table for two to three seats. Take turns having one family member turn around and be the “investigator.” While the investigator is turned around, the rest of the family can make subtle changes to the place settings. Have the investigator turn around and try to figure out what was changed! Take turns being the investigator until everyone has had a turn!

Sit everyone down and read Psalm 23:1-5a.

2) SAY

Have you ever set a table? When I see a table set, it makes me feel like I’m invited and that I belong. That makes me feel warm inside! What are your favorite foods to eat around the table? Mmm, I can almost smell them!

3) SAY

The verse we read today says that even when we are with enemies, or people who don’t love us, we can feel that warm and safe feeling. How? Because of Jesus! Even in the hardest time, we can feel welcomed into His arms. There is always a seat for us at His table.

End in a prayer. Example:

Lord, even when we feel like no one likes us, or that we don’t belong, help us to remember that we are never alone, and that you are always beside us. Thank you for always having a place for us at Your table. We love you so much! Amen.
