Surely Goodness and Mercy…

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord
    forever.

Psalm 23:6 (ESV)
Here’s what you’ll need for today’s lesson:
  1. A Bible; turn to Psalm 23
  2. A bowl (1 per player)
  3. Cotton balls

1) DO

Divide the family into “catchers” and “clouds.” Have all the catchers sit on the floor, back to back. Have the “clouds” send down cotton balls over their heads! The catcher with the most cotton balls caught wins!

Sit everyone down and read Psalm 23:1-6.

2) SAY

Wow! King David said that surely goodness and mercy would follow Him his whole life. What does goodness and mercy look like to you? What other Bible stories mention God’s goodness, or God’s mercy? (Allow time to discuss).

3) SAY

In Psalm 23, we have learned a lot about what it means to walk with the Lord—through good times and bad. One thing remains the same no matter what our situation: God loves us, and is always going to be right there beside us. How does that make you feel?

End in a prayer. Example:

Lord, thank you for Psalm 23, and the reminder that you will never leave our side. Help us to honor you with our choices, to depend on you, and to find comfort in your Word. Forgive us when we make the wrong choices, and help us to trust you lead us in the path of righteousness. We love you so very much. Amen!
