My New Year’s Resolution

The sobering reality is that we may be far enough into 2015 for many of us to have abandoned those New Year’s resolutions we set just a few weeks ago. Some of us may have long since disassociated with the whole idea of a resolution.

Whatever resolution theory you follow, may I offer my New Year’s resolution for you to carry into the year?

Calendar

In 2015, I Will…
The one I would suggest is not one that is easily abandoned nor does it require a whole lot of effort or concentration. I don’t have to change my diet to accomplish this one. And best of all, I don’t need to wear something on my wrist to measure my heart rate nor even step foot on a scale.

So here it is … In 2015, I will believe what God has said to me:

I will never leave you nor forsake you. Deuteronomy 31:6 & Hebrews 13:5

Lest this sound anticlimactic to you, allow me to remind you the implications of the promise I’m encouraging you to resolve to believe. When you get that unexpected phone call that changes everything, the One who is unchanging is with you. When you are betrayed by your closest friends, the One who is nearer than a friend remains near to you. When you face certain hurt or harm, the One who is your ever present help in time of need hides and protects you.

I’m not suggesting that you drop those other goals that promote good physical health. The apostle Paul even affirms that physical training is of some value in this life. What I am suggesting is that by resolving to believe this promise, we are training ourselves in godliness—Paul affirms this type of training as beneficial not only now, in 2015, but in life eternal to come.

Resolved to believe,
