He Restores My Soul…

    He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness[a]
    for his name’s sake.

Psalm 23:2b (ESV)
Here’s what you’ll need for today’s lesson:
  1. A Bible; turn to Psalm 23
  2. Toothpaste
  3. Floss,
  4. Plastic baggies

1) DO

Give each member of the family a plastic baggie. Tear off a piece of floss, tie it in a very loose knot, and drop it in the bag. Squirt a little toothpaste in each bag, then mush! Once the floss is mushed up with the toothpaste, have them press the bag to make the floss into a straight line. If they master this, drop another string of floss and have them try to make an X, a heart, etc.

Sit everyone down and read Psalm 23:1-3.

2) SAY

How did you make your lines to do what you wanted? (allow answers). That’s right! You guided it with your finger. Just like you guided your string of floss, God guides our lives! If we stay close to Him, He says in Psalm 23:3 that He will “lead us in the path of righteousness,” or in other words, He’ll help us do the right thing.

3) SAY

Is there a decision you’ve made recently that was not the right thing? How did that make you feel? What can you do when you want to make a bad choice?

End in a prayer. Example:

Lord, thank you for being a God who cares so much about us. Help us to make the right decisions today; decisions that would be pleasing to you. Help us to remember to always do the right thing, even when its hard. Please forgive us for when we did not do the right thing. Thank you for your patience with us! We love you so much. Amen.
