He Makes Me Lie Down in Green Pastures

He makes me lie down in green pastures

Psalm 23:2a (ESV)
Here’s what you’ll need for today’s lesson:
  1. A Bible; turn to Psalm 23
  2. Towels

1) DO

Give everyone in the family 2 towels. Make a start and an end point at separate ends of the house (or a full on relay if you have the space!). Stepping only on towels, each family member must make it from one end to the other. You may do this individually with a timer, two at a time, or all at once!

Sit everyone down and read Psalm 23:1-2a.

2) SAY

Wow! It was so hard to only walk on the towels that we had laid down! In the second verse of Psalm 23, we read that God makes us lie down in green pastures. What do you think of when you hear that? (allow time for answers and share your own!) Have you ever laid down in a green pasture? What did it feel like to have the grass underneath your skin? The sun shining down on your face? The word that comes to my mind when I hear this verse is “rest.” We read yesterday that God takes care of us as the Good Shepherd, and today we learned that He allows us to rest in Him. Can someone read 1 Peter 5:7? Wow! We can give all of our worries to him.

3) SAY

Is there a worry that you’d like to give to the Lord? Would you like to share it? (allow time for sharing and share yourself if you’d like!). Thank you so much for being courageously real and sharing something that worries you. Let’s pray and bring those worries to God!

End in a prayer. Example:

Lord, thank you for being our Good Shepherd and for allowing us space to rest in You, even when things seem hard. Help us to rest in Your goodness today, knowing that you are going to take care of everything. We love you so much! Amen.
