2 Corinthians 9:12–15 (NLT)

12So two good things will result from this ministry of giving—the needs of the believers in Jerusalem will be met, and they will joyfully express their thanks to God. 13As a result of your ministry, they will give glory to God. For your generosity to them and to all believers will prove that you are obedient to the Good News of Christ. 14And they will pray for you with deep affection because of the overflowing grace God has given to you. 15Thank God for this gift too wonderful for words!

We pick up where we left off yesterday in Paul’s letter to the Corinthians. Speaking of yesterday, I invited you to “see” what God provides and produces in verses 6-11. Here are the 7 things that stood out to me, I’m sure they are similar to your own.

  1. God provides all I need
  1. God provides more than I need so I can give to others
  1. God provides the seed
  1. God provides the bread
  1. God provides an increase to my resources
  1. God produces a great harvest through me
  1. God provides in such a way that I can always be generous

As Paul concludes his thoughts in the verses above, the focus turns to what is accomplished or what is the result of his provision flowing through his children.

First, needs are met. Secondly, joy is expressed to God. Third, God is glorified. Fourth, obedience is validated. Fifth, others are prompted to pray.

Isn’t it interesting that Paul – a man who is never short on words – calls the fruits of a life of generosity “too wonderful for words” Indeed.

Again, we are reminded that the Journey of Generosity does not end with “live.” We might say, “live” is not even the goal. “Live” is the result of coming, seeing and giving. And this “life” is one that actually produces “life” for others. The “giver” finds that in giving their lives away, life is actually produced in others, as they come to Jesus.

In this, God is glorified. You are right Paul, “there are no words…”

Let’s pray this prayer together…

Father, as we come to you, help us to see your bounty. In our giving, may we live in such a way that that the world sees your glory, and others are drawn to come.
