2 Kings 6:8–23 (NLT)

14So, one night, the king of Aram sent a great army with many chariots and horses to surround the city. 15When the servant of the man of God got up early the next morning and went outside, there were troops, horses, and chariots everywhere. “Oh, sir, what will we do now?” the young man cried to Elisha. 16“Don’t be afraid!” Elisha told him. “For there are more on our side than on theirs!” 17Then Elisha prayed, “O Lord, open his eyes and let him see!” The Lord opened the young man’s eyes, and when he looked up, he saw that the hillside around Elisha was filled with horses and chariots of fire.

Elisha and his servant were no match for the King of Aram’s troops and chariots. Prophets were not assigned a “security detail” to keep them from harm. And harm was heading Elisha’s way because the King of Aram was tired of Elisha giving away all his battle plans to the king of Israel (see verses 8-13).

Thus, when Aram’s “troops, horses and chariots” surrounded the city in which Elisha was staying, he envisioned an easy victory. After all, Elisha had no army protecting him. At least not one that could be seen

Elisha’s servant saw a very real army surrounding them. No wonder he was terrified. Elisha was not blind to being outmanned and outgunned by Aram. But he saw more – the invisible reality of God’s presence, protection, and provision.

We all need Elisha praying for us, “Oh Lord, open his eyes and let him see!”

We actually have someone greater…

Hebrews 7:25 (ESV)

25Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.

Jesus never ceases to pray that you will see what cannot be seen with your physical eyes – His presence, protection, provision, and hand at work in your life. That you will know the power of the gospel, not just when you believed, but where you are right now.

Let’s all make this our application for the day…

God will show you something today, and the Spirit will whisper in your heart…” This is none other than God giving you a glimpse of Himself at work on your behalf.”

Keep your spiritual eyes open.
