Day 12

He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy.

Proverbs 28:13

If you missed the short explanation of confession and 1 John 1:8-10 from Day 8 please start by reading that short devotion.

Begin with Adoration

Read each attribute and definition and praise God for what that attribute means and tells you about God. You may want to choose one of the associated passages to read.

  • God is omniscient. This means God is all-knowing. God’s knowledge encompasses every possible piece of information regarding anything that currently exists, existed in the past, or will exist in the future. (Psalm 139:1-6)
  • God is omnipresent. God is everywhere—in and around everything, close to everyone. “‘Do not I fill heaven and earth?’ declares the Lord.” (Psalm 139:7-12)
  • God is merciful. God’s merciful compassion is never ending and does not run dry. Through His provision in Christ, He took the judgment that was rightfully ours and placed it on His own shoulders. He waits and works now for all people to turn to Him and to live under His justification. (Deuteronomy 4:29-31)
  • God is sovereign. God presides over every event, great or small, and He is in control of our lives. He rules all creation with all knowledge and power. (1 Chronicles 29:11-13)

Continue with Confession

Invite the Holy Spirit to make you aware of any sin that is hindering your fellowship with God. Consider if there are ways you are failing to trust God by leaning on your own wisdom, depending on your own strength. Confess those things as sin…

As you have been focusing on confession this week, has the Spirit impressed upon you any people you have sinned against from whom you need to ask their forgiveness? Is there a relationship that He continues to bring to your mind that needs attention? Do you need to apologize, ask forgiveness, and seek some level of reconciliation and restoration?

Depending on the power of the Spirit and to the degree that you are able, would you take the first step to make that relationship right? (Romans 12:18)

Remember…

In confession we repent, turn from our sin, and turn toward God in faith. Our repentance is not just a change of mind, but a change of affections and will, such that our repentance shows up in how we live.

Conclude your time of confession by acknowledging and accepting that God—through faith in Christ—indeed forgives and cleanses you from all sin and unrighteousness. Thank Him for fellowship restored and deepened.
