Get to Know Rosemary and PEACE International

HISTORY with Fellowship

Rosemary Khamati was well-known and respected by Fellowship Bible Global Leadership for twelve years, before becoming an official global partner in 2012.  At that time, she and her organization, PEACE International built the first-ever school in Biong, South Sudan.  Two weeks before the school was to open, a bloody civil war broke out in that very area, causing many to flee to the safety of Uganda.  By early 2014, Rosemary found herself in Northen Uganda at a refugee camp called Olua 1, reconnecting with the very people she had served in Biong.  There was absolutely nothing in the refugee camp besides the most meager of provisions and a hunger to learn and thrive. Rosemary didn’t know what she could do, but she knew God was calling her to come alongside these people who had suffered so much.

PEACE School Education

Today, PEACE School educates over 800 students from Pre-K through 7th grade. The school provides quality biblical education along with trauma care, and two meals per day.  Pastor Simon, the school’s chaplain, fervently promotes spiritual development and discipleship of the students and teachers. Once children can read, they are given their own Bible, which is read and discussed in class. Much emphasis is given to the spiritual, emotional, and psychological health of these refugee students who ran with their families from war.

Additionally, through a scholarship program, students can continue their education either in a boarding High School or PEACE’s newly built Vocational School, which aims to equip students with trade and business skills for job readiness. Education helps to move these students out of poverty and depression into hope and a future. Called by God and steeped in His word, they are equipped to flourish and to help others do the same.

PASTOR Equipping

In the past 10+ years, over 100 pastors and church leaders have been trained through a two-year program of Trauma Healing, Tribal Reconciliation, and Inductive Bible study. These spiritual leaders of their various refugee settlements and communities have had no previous formal bible training. PEACE sees trained church leaders as an essential component to the overall success of spreading the gospel and growing disciples. PEACE has now successfully added biblical marriage training as a crucial part of the program.

WOMEN’s Empowerment

PEACE supports 200 women committed to grow in their faith through Bible study, Christ-centered business entrepreneurial/skills training and microfinance savings groups. Those once living in a cycle of poverty and dependency are now finding opportunities to provide for their households through discipleship, skills development, and hard work. This has lifted the spirits of the community with a vibrant, hopeful view of God’s unfailing love and provision.

Prayer Requests

  • Pray for good health and spiritual growth for the students at the primary School, and wisdom for the 7th grade graduates and their families as they make school choices for next year. Pray for the teachers and the staff as they serve this community.
  • Pray for the Women’s Empowerment groups to generously give to the church and the community, and may they involve their children in their businesses.
  • Pray for the Church Leaders who have just graduated from the 2-year Trauma Healing & Church Leadership program. (One hundred leaders have graduated to date.) May they recruit new candidates from their home communities for the next training class so there will be ever more Christian peacemakers and change-agents in Northern Uganda.
  • Pray for wisdom and provision as we open the new PEACE Vocational School; may it bless and equip many with marketable skills.
