Last week I had the opportunity to catch up with Rosemary Khamati via Skype. Thanks to Fellowship’s financial gifts, the refugee elementary school that PEACE helps oversee, has added two new classrooms. Read below what Rosemary shared about these classrooms and the school:
“We are very thankful for your partnership that enables our ministry to grow and change lives for the glory of God. Your prayers, giving, encouragement go a long way to keep us serving those in Olua 1 settlement in Adjumani, Northern Uganda. I would like to specifically tell the story of the newly constructed block of two class rooms.”
“Since August 2014, we had two classrooms located in an older building. There were over 200 refugee children that would come each day for instruction. Because there wasn’t enough room for all the children to sit in these two classrooms, many of the children wandered around the camp.”
“In late fall 2017, we began construction of the new block for two additional classrooms to be added.”
“Starting January 2018, the new block of two classrooms are being used by over 100 first graders. If the classrooms were not there, these 100 children would either be out of school or walking a long distance to learn. This would then cause them to drop out of school and would remain without an education. The new block is serving even a greater purpose.”
“Our ultimate goal is to nurture the children to eventually have a relationship with Christ, hence the decision to retain the kids in the school. The teachers will walk with them and teach them the Word of God in addition to what Pastor Simon does with them as the school Chaplain. Each classroom can only accommodate 50 children so we’ve stopped allowing other children to come to the school.”
“It is our deliberate intention to involve the parents in this process as time goes by so that at the household level the message is the same. Pray that this will bring more of these loved ones into the Kingdom and that God receives all the glory and honor as He enables us. We are thankful to God for using His servants to give towards providing a learning environment to the South Sudanese refugee children in Adjumani, Northern Uganda. God bless those who continue to give.”
