History of Involvement in Peru

God Ordained Partnership

With the first “exploratory” visit in the summer of 2002, there was no doubt that God had ordained the partnership between Fellowship and the CMA church there. Their leadership and church vision is strong and their ministries are aligned with ours. As of April, 2013, about 500 FBC members have participated in 48 additional global trips and internships in Peru. Many members have participated in multiple trips. Each trip has met specialized ministry needs as defined by the church leadership there.

Many Diverse Teams

Due to our relationship with the Peruvian CMA church, FBC has been able to expand its ministry to include other areas of Peru such as Iquitos and other Amazonian villages to the north and Chincha, Arequipa and Tacna to the south. FBC’s diverse teams have led and participated in men’s, women’s, family, youth, marriage, legal, apologetics, worship, children’s and general congregational and pastors conferences. They have led multiple kids clubs, participated in “mass” wedding and vow renewal ceremonies, led worship at various churches and hosted a large community wide concert. Teams have taught and performed in elementary schools, high schools and universities, as well as in schools for children with special needs. They have led business training seminars, worked and played with senior citizens and held TV and radio interviews.

Giving Their Lives Away

Team members have shared their stories, baptized and been baptized, danced, taught, sung and performed drama in church services in various locations in the Lima area. They have visited and prayed with families in need in their homes, in hospitals, and at trash dumps.

They have participated in neighborhood clean ups, hosted princess teas for young girls and fed the poor. They have served orphans and had parties for disabled children and their families. Several medical teams have hosted clinics as well as gone into neighborhoods for immunizations and check ups. One of FBC’s surgeons donated arthroscopic equipment to the public hospital in Comas and trained surgeons there in its use.

Mutual Encouragement

We have learned and experienced unity in the body of Christ through this incredible partnership. Each member of each team has loved our family in Comas in very personal ways and they have loved us back, beyond belief! We look forward to experiencing what God has in store for our partnership in the future.

Biography

Pastor Mario Perez is the senior pastor of the Christian Missioary Allicance (CMA) Church in Comas.  He has been married to Rosa for almost 40 years.  They have three adult children, two grandchildren and a dog.  Debbie, their oldest daughter, and her husband Sebastian, have 2 young sons.  Sebastian pastors Church of the City in Miraflores (a suburb of Lima). Their son Kevin is a dentist and professor at a university in Lima.  Their youngest daughter, Hanna, is finishing her studies at Mercy University in New York.

Fellowship's partnership in Comas, Peru began with Pastor Mario Perez in the Christian Missionary Alliance (CMA) Church in Comas in 2002/2003. He left Comas in 2007 to serve in the denomination’s corporate leadership.  Pastor Angel Barrientos then took Mario's place as the senior pastor of the CMA church in Comas.

Mario served the CMA denomination in various capacities, and until March of this year, was the President of the CMA in Peru, overseeing their seminary in Lima, 92 missionaries and 423 ordained ministers in 390 church’s (120,858 members) throughout the country. He is the first person to serve three terms as their President.

He chose to come back to Comas because God continues to give him a huge burden and concern for the people who do not know Christ, both in the Comas district and throughout the northern area of Lima. "I am convinced that God has called me back to Comas to experience the manifestation of His power and His glory once again in the midst of a united work between you (FBC) and us."

Mario's current priority ministry focus is the new generations (children, teens, young adults, young professionals, and young people called to pastoral ministry). He believes that God wants us to “disciple, pastor, train and work with them.”

Before initially coming to Comas in 2002, Pastor Mario served as a CMA pastor at the Johannes Gutenberg NGO's schools in El Agustino and San Felipe (near Comas).
