Students Serving with Purpose at Star Ministries

It has been such a joy to serve at Star Ministries Food Bank with our FSM students since 2020! Whenever there is a month with a holiday or Summer months when our schools are free on the 3rd Monday of the month, we love getting to partner with this ministry. The families that receive the provision of food through the work of Star Ministries and their partnership with Second Harvest are so grateful and appreciative. It is sweet  to watch our students be so excited to serve in this way. Sometimes we have had upwards of 40 students on a given Monday! We even saw that this month there weren’t many people signed up for the regular monthly sign-up, so very last minute ten students said yes to helping out.

One really special part of those days that happens when a lot of volunteers are there is the opportunity to pray for the families that are waiting in line to receive the food. We want them to know that true provision and needs being met comes from the Lord. We have teams of students go from car to car asking families how to be praying for them and our students step out in faith by boldly praying for the needs of the families. Our students are learning more of what it looks like to live with Spirit dependence as well as the power of prayer. The families are seen and loved in a really tangible way and our students walk away encouraged as well. We have a great time serving alongside Star Ministries and often on FSM serve days with the youth from Morning Star as well. We have also had leaders come out to serve with their students and sometimes they even bring their younger children. We love seeing kids see their parents serve and getting the opportunity to learn from such a young age what it looks like to be involved in the community in this way.

If you have a 3rd Monday of the month available at any point, I strongly encourage you to serve with Star Ministries. You will love it!
